According to myRepublica, the Ministry of Energy has officially inaugurated the construction of the main tunnel for the 106 MW Jagdulla Semi-Reservoir Hydropower Project in Dolpa. This joint venture between federal, provincial, and local governments marks a pivotal development for Karnali Province.
The project encompasses two plants: the 106 MW Jagdulla and the 124.35 MW Jagdulla A, totaling 230.35 MW. Jagdulla Hydropower Company CEO Sanjay Sapkota highlighted that the project serves as a model by combining state ownership with local participation and domestic financing.
Economic projections are robust, with the federal government set to receive Rs 195 million in annual royalties. The Karnali provincial government and local authorities are each expected to gain around Rs 95 million per year.
Furthermore, the initiative has already enhanced regional infrastructure, including a new bridge over the Bheri River and access roads. These upgrades have reduced travel time from Nepalgunj to Dolpa from over three days to a single day, significantly improving connectivity.
