According to Ratopati, the Department of Foreign Employment in Nepal has issued a new directive under the supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office. This policy requires all manpower companies to regularly monitor Nepali workers sent abroad. The reform targets the foreign employment sector, a key pillar of Nepal’s economy.
Companies must submit quarterly reports detailing worker conditions. They are also required to contact at least 5 to 10 workers monthly to verify salaries, housing, and safety standards. If violations are found, firms must coordinate with employers to resolve issues, including rescues and compensation.
Mira Acharya, the Department’s Director General, emphasized that the primary responsibility for worker welfare lies with the manpower companies. The measure aims to curb systemic issues like unpaid wages, forced labor, and passport confiscation.
