Domestic Tourism Contributes 2.65% to Nepal’s GDP

Domestic tourism contributed 2.65% to Nepal’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in fiscal year 2024/25. According to data reported by myRepublica from the National Statistics Office (NSO), the sector generated a gross value added of Rs 144.49 billion. Total household expenditure on tourism reached Rs 459.5 billion during the 12-month period. Overnight tourists accounted for the largest share of consumption at Rs 314.41 billion, while same-day visitors contributed Rs 92.76 billion. On average, Nepalis take 3.47 domestic trips annually, lasting 5.29 days. Business travel was the most frequent, while educational trips had the longest duration. Kathmandu remains the primary destination for business and health travel, with Kaski leading in leisure.
