According to The Rising Nepal, the Ministry of Information and Communication has reported substantial progress in digital governance during the government’s first 100 days. The postal service facilitated the delivery of over 206,000 passports to district offices, initiating home delivery in 75 districts. Additionally, more than 808,000 driving licenses were distributed across the country’s seven provinces.
The Security Printing Press achieved 100% completion of the first agreement for 1.2 million smart licenses featuring QR technology. Under a second agreement, 82% of the target 2.37 million licenses were printed by mid-June. Infrastructure improvements include a new seven-digit postal code for better tracking and expanded 4G services by Nepal Telecom.
Key legislation regarding IT, cybersecurity, data protection, and AI has been drafted to establish a legal framework for this digital transformation. Furthermore, Business Process Re-engineering has been introduced to streamline administrative procedures and reduce unnecessary approvals.
