Dhankuta Ginger Prices Surge 300% to Record High

Ginger prices in the Dhankuta district have quadrupled over the last four months, reaching Rs 160 per kg. This marks a 300% increase and the highest price recorded in three years, according to *The Rising Nepal*.

Previously, the commodity ranged between Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kg. The surge is attributed to reduced production, increased exports to India, and limited availability of stored stock and seeds.

Data from the Agriculture Knowledge Centre indicates ginger is cultivated across 246 hectares in the district, with an annual production of approximately 4,584 metric tons. The commercial crop is grown across all seven local levels of Dhankuta.
