Koshi Province Capital Expenditure Drops by Rs 4 Billion

Koshi Province’s capital expenditure has declined by approximately Rs 4 billion over the last three financial years, according to data from the Nepal Rastra Bank and the Office of the Auditor General. Spending fell from Rs 18.11 billion in FY 2079/080 to Rs 13.82 billion in FY 2081/082. As of Jestha in the current fiscal year, only 39.8% of the capital budget has been utilized.

This reduction has directly impacted infrastructure development, causing delays in projects related to roads, bridges, drinking water, and public buildings. Economists attribute the slowdown to weak revenue collection, administrative apathy, and poor project selection. Despite a stable government, over five billion rupees remain idle, highlighting weak spending capacity.
