In the opening game of the ICC One Day World Cup Cricket Global Qualifier, Zimbabwe defeated Nepal by eight wickets after skipper Craig Irvine and Sean Williams each produced a century innings.
In the opening Group ‘A’ encounter, Nepal and Zimbabwe squared off. In 44.1 overs, Zimbabwe needed 291 runs to reach their goal while losing 2 wickets.
On the strength of 15 fours and 1 six, Irvine scored 121 runs off 128 balls. Sean Williams used 13 fours and 1 six to score 102 runs in 70 balls. Both were yet unconquered. After a 164-run partnership was formed in 125 balls for the third wicket, Zimbabwe’s triumph was certain.
The Zimbabwean batsman demonstrated the Nepali bowlers to be harmless. Gulsan Jha and Sompal Kami both claimed one wicket. Sandeep Lamichhane, the most effective bowler for Nepal, amassed 77 runs in 10 overs. He was unable to take a wicket, though.
Prior to it, Nepal, which was given the opportunity to bat first after losing the toss, lost 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs while scoring 290 runs.
Nepal and India collaborated to score 171 runs for the first wicket. Nepal’s batting base became solid thanks to the outstanding performances of opener Kushal Bhurtel and Asif Sekh.
The first wicket of Nepal was lost after 32 overs for 171 runs. Kushal got 99 runs off 95 balls with the help of two sixes and 13 fours, falling one run short of his century. Masakadza bowled for him. In ODIs, he was unable to record his second century.
Similar to this, Asif scored 66 runs while playing 100 balls. Nepal lost Asif after adding three runs after losing Kushal’s wicket. Masakadza caught him as he attempted to play a big shot. Nepal achieved 184 runs in 35 overs despite losing two wickets.
The run rate was then further enhanced by the captain Rohit Kumar Paudel and all-rounder Kushal Malla’s bold strokes. After scoring 255 runs in 44 overs, Nepal lost the fourth wicket throughout this sequence.
In the second ball of the first 44 overs, Kushal Malla hit a six, raising Nepal’s total to 255 runs. Kushal, however, was quickly exposed in the subsequent ball. Kushal scored three sixes and two fours on his 42 balls.
Rohit Kumar Poudel was struck out earlier for 31 runs off 29 balls. He swung for five fours. Gulsan Jha scored 13 runs in just 11 balls, and Asif scored 10 runs in just 11 balls.
Bhim Sarki was caught behind the wicket on the first delivery after being brought to the crease following the loss of the seventh wicket. In 7 balls, Dipendra scored 6 runs. Karan Casey continued to be unbeaten after scoring two runs in two balls.
Ngarava, of Zimbabwe, claimed four wickets for 43 runs in nine overs. In two successive balls, he removed Arif and Bhim from the game.
