According to RatoPati, tea exports from Nepal to India resumed on July 3, 2026, ending a two-month standstill that threatened 99 industries. The blockage, caused by administrative and technical barriers, had forced closures in Jhapa and Ilam. The crisis was resolved by India’s new risk-based testing policy implemented on June 23, which reduced random testing to 20% of shipments instead of 100%. While orthodox tea exports from mountain regions have fully resumed, CTC tea from the Terai region remains pending. This resolution safeguards the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and workers dependent on the sector.
